...what is Mindful Living?

What does it mean to live Mindfully?

Most of us live our lives putting out fires here and there; doing our best to prevent them when we can. We have kids who need our attention, homes with diminishing values, loss of jobs and ever-increasing expenses. We turn on the TV for a break and we are bombarded with negativity, whether from nasty campaign ads, from sensationalistic media coverage, or from information about the failing economy, two deadly wars, global warming and its effects!

Is it any wonder many of us find ourselves eating too much, drinking too much, working too much, yelling at the kids or our spouses too much…We have become weary and full of anxiety. We doubt we can find a place of peace and calm. There seems to be no such place.

Are you ready for relief? It does exist. It is ever-present and always attainable. It is simply a matter of re-discovering it. In this increasingly unpredictable world we live in, it will become impossible to survive without finding this place of peace.

Welcome to Mindful Living.

Living mindfully means we learn to stop being reactive, and instead we learn to be responsive.

We learn to slow down and breathe, rather than quicken our pace and increase our stress.

We learn to be awake in our lives as we learn to turn off the “auto-matic pilot” that keeps us disconnected from ourselves and those we love.

We learn to “accept the things we can not change, change the things we can, and seek the wisdom to know the difference.” And we learn to accept that there is very little we can truly control.

We learn to recognize the old stories we have come to believe about ourselves, ones that have kept us bound to suffering and pain. And in so doing, we learn to break free from these patterns which have prevented us from fulfilling our Potential.

We learn that this Potential exists in every single one of us.

We learn that anxiety is based on fear of the future.

We learn that depression is based on being stuck in the past.

We learn that in reality, the past and the future do not exist.

We learn that the Present is the only thing that does exist.

We learn to accept all our feelings without allowing them to become all that we are.

We learn to observe our thoughts with curiosity rather than allowing them to define us.

Mindful Living is about becoming Conscious. As we do so, the Light of Consciousness illuminates our struggles and our suffering and leads us toward Transformation.

It really is that simple.  Not always easy, but simple nonetheless.

It is time for us all to come out of the Dark, and open up to the Light.
